MOBILITY SCOOTER DESTROYS ONE HALF OF PATIO DOOR

THIS DAY COMMENCED QUIETLY, PEACEFULLY, SUNNY, AND WITH MUCH IN MIND.  HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE SNOW ON THE GROUND, WHICH WAS SHOVELED PROPERLY ALL AROUND THE SIDEWALK AND FROM THE PATIO TO THE SIDEWALK BY THE MAINTENANCE STAFF THE DAY BEFORE, IT WOULD ALMOST BE LIKE A CHILLY SPRING MORNING.



THAT IS HOW IT STARTED, BUT WITHIN THE SPACE OF THIRTY MINUTES THE CLIMATE OF EVENTS CHANGED.  FOR STARTERS, CONFIRMATION FOR TRANSPORTATION PICK-UP FOR A SCHEDULED HOSPITAL APPOINTMENT SHOWED THAT AN ERROR HAD BEEN COMMITTED AND THERE WAS NO MENTION OF IT ON THE LIST OF THE TRANSPORT SERVICE.  THE MULTI-DISABLED INDIVIDUAL PANICKED AS TODAY WAS VERY IMPORTANT MEDICALLY.  CALLS WERE MADE IN HAST AND AFTER SOME DELAY AND EVERYONE WORKING TOGETHER, THE MATTER WAS SUCCESSFULLY RESOLVED.  THE STRESS LEVEL, THOUGH, HAD ALREADY TAKEN EFFECT ON THE DISABLED PERSON WHO WAS GOING TO HAVE A RIGOROUS DAY.

THE EXTRAORDINARY OCCURRENCES THAT FOLLOWED JUST COMPLICATED THE ENTIRE MORNING AND DAY.  WITH A SWIFT MOTION, ANOTHER UPSETTING HAPPENING TOOK PLACE, WHILE THAT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF COMING TO TERMS AND RESOLUTION, THE MOBILITY SCOOTER WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND REFUSING TO SPOT CRASHED THROUGH THE PATIO DOOR.  THE GLASS CAME DOWN AND PIECES FLEW THROUGHOUT THE LIVING ROOM AND ALL OVER THE MOBILITY SCOOTER.  THE WORST OF IT WAS THAT THE LITTLE SERVICE CANINE WAS IN THE BASKET OF THE MOTORIZED DEVICE WHEN THE GLASS BROKE.  FORTUNATELY, THE LITTLE SCOOTER DOG WAS NOT INJURED NOR WAS THE DISABLED TENANT. AT THAT MOMENT, ALL THAT WAS TO BE FOR THE DAY CAME TO A HALT. 

THE RESIDENT UNABLE TO WITHHOLD THE TEARS AND EMOTIONAL STATE, CONTACTED MANAGEMENT AND WAS UNABLE TO EXPLAIN WHAT THE MOBILITY SCOOTER HAD DONE.  AS MUCH, IT WAS EXPLAINED AND WITHIN MINUTES THEY ARRIVED AND EVALUATED THE CIRCUMSTANCES.  THE SAME PROPERTY MANAGEMENT TEAM THAT HAD FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS DENIED REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS FOR A CURB CUT; THE SHOVELING OF SNOW AND ICE FROM THE SIDEWALKS AND FROM THE THE PATIO TO THE SIDEWALK, NOW CAME TO THE RESCUE.  YES, THE SAME MANAGEMENT TEAM TO THE RESCUE.



THEY IMMEDIATELY WENT ABOUT TO REMOVE WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE BROKEN GLASS, REMOVE THE FRAME, AND PROCEED TO CLEAN UP THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE DEBRIS FROM THE CARPETING, THE FURNITURE, AND EVEN THE MOBILITY SCOOTER.  EVERYONE ASKED IF THE RESIDENT WAS INJURED AND OKAY.  THEY THEN OBTAINED A NEW PATIO DOOR AND INSTALLED IT.  AGAIN, THEY WENT OVER THE GLASS PARTICLES STILL LINGERING AND ENSURED THAT MOST HAD BEEN REMOVED.

THE DISTRAUGHT TENANT SAID SORRY TO MAINTENANCE AND THEY RESPONDED BY SAYING "DON'T WORRY, ACCIDENTS HAPPEN -- AS LONG AS EVERYONE IS OKAY" 

LATER IN THE DAY, THE PROPERTY MANAGER SPOKE WITH THE MULTI-DISABLED INDIVIDUAL, VIA TELEPHONE, AND STATED THAT THE IMPORTANT THING WAS THAT NO-ONE WAS HURT AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT.  YES, THE VERY SAME PROPERTY MANAGER HAD WORDS OF CONSOLATION AND KINDNESS.

TO NOT WRITE THIS POST WOULD, IN ITSELF, BE AN INACCURATE ACCOUNT OF THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATION OF THIS MULTI-DISABLED INDIVIDUAL.


DO NOTE, HOWEVER, THAT THE MATTER OF ACCESSIBILITY IS STILL OF SERIOUS CONCERN AND, AS YET, CONTINUOUSLY DENIED.
